INTEGRATION STRATEGY FOR CORK - 2008 -2011 The Strategy was launched by the Integration Minister Conor Lenihan on the 25th of April. The Strategy is the first of its kind in the country. While a number of Anti Racism Strategies have been published this is the first to place a positive emphasis on the need for Integration. Very early in the planning process a deliberate decision was taken by the project’s steering group to produce a brief and practical document. The strategy is just that – it contains over forty actions to be achieved within a specified timeframe and identifies statutory and voluntary groups, including Cois Tine who are to take the lead in ensuring these actions take place. The Strategy also has a mechanism for monitoring and reviewing implementation.

The overall aim of the Strategy is to promote inclusion and interculturalism, to welcome diversity, combat racism, and to break down some of the barriers to integration between communities. Denise Gormley, the strategy’s coordinator said, "This year is European Year of Intercultural Dialogue and as integration represents one of the most important challenges to modern Irish society, this is an excellent opportunity for Cork city to strengthen its strategic focus on integration."
