NEW IMMIGRATION BILL PUBLISHED
Fri: 2 July.  The Government has just published a new version of an immigration bill first published,in 2008. Speaking in the Dail Dermot Ahern, The Minister of Justice said: "It essentially retains the structures and objectives of the Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill 2008, which has undergone an extensive consideration in the Dáil," he said.    The previous Draft was the subject of much controversy with numerous submissions and amendments being made by NGO’s, human rights groups and politicians.   The government aims to pass this version of the Bill into law by the autumn.  Given the timing of release of the Bill, just as the Dail prepares of its summer recess, the current economic climate and public preoccupation with the effects of the recession opposition to the Bill is likely to be more muted making the passage of the Bill easier.   Read More
