AFRICAN WOMEN’S GROUP CELEBRATE A JOB WELL DONE The Cork African Women’s Group based at Cois Tine said farewell to Sr Mairead Fitzpatrick on the occasion of her retirement from the day to day running of Cois Tine, a task that she has been involved with on a daily basis since Cois Tine’s foundation in 2002.
Sr Mairead will continue her involvement in Cois Tine’s outreach work through visitation of accommodation centres. For years she has been the face of welcome at Cois Tine. Now that Cois Tine has developed and that immigrants have become an integral part of our community the task she performed so well will be continued by others some of whom, fittingly, are immigrants from countries such as Nigeria, Uganda, Cuba, Ethiopia and Morocco.
The celebration on the 15th of July consisted of music, dance, poetry and heartfelt words of appreciation and thanks for the dedication, care and support shown by Mairead for the past eight years. We wish her well in the future and we are grateful for the good work done, the support given and the difference her welcome and care made to numerous people from many countries. Together all these helped to make Cois Tine live up to the meaning of its name by being a place of warmth, comfort and acceptance.
